Bank deposits surge 15% in May

he total deposits held by scheduled banks have moved up by 15.07% YoY to Rs37.64 trillion in May 2026 compared to Rs32.72tr in May 2025. According to the numbers based on the weekly Statement for May 29, 2026 by SBP, Banks' deposits have edged lower by -0.62% MoM, compared to Rs37.88tr in April 2026. Total advances increased by 13.04% to Rs14.72tr compared to Rs13.02tr from a year ago. On a monthly basis, advances increased by 0.37% from their value of Rs14.67tr in April 2026. Advances to Deposit Ratio (ADR) stood at 39.11% showing a decrease of 70 bps on a yearly basis, while showing an increase of 39 bps on a monthly basis.
